Reading and Cooking Demonstration

Come join children’s book author, Mandy Monath, and the staff of Wilson County Library to hear “How Counting Came to Be,” a funny story about how humans first learned to answer the question “How many?” Children will also learn how people have used gourds and related plants for thousands of years as tools and food. Free and open to the public!

“City Lights Bookstore will host poets Mandy Monath and Catherine Carter on Saturday, April 29th, at 3 p.m. They will discuss and share poems from Mandy’s debut collection, This is Like That: Poems and Process.

With its evocative precision in language, lyric poetry has always been Mandy's favorite medium. Her other writing has appeared in Christian Science Monitor and The Wall Street Journal. She splits her time between Raleigh and Washington, North Carolina.

Catherine W. Carter is the author of Larvae of the Nearest Stars, The Memory of Gills, and The Swamp Monster at Home. Her work has appeared in Best American Poetry, Orion, Ploughshares, Poetry, and elsewhere. She lives with her husband in Cullowhee, North Carolina, where she teaches at Western Carolina University.”
